Birmingham, United Kingdom – Ben Whittaker delivered an emphatic statement in Birmingham, stopping Benjamin Gavazi in the opening round to keep his unbeaten record intact.
Competing for the first time since aligning with Matchroom, the 28-year-old light heavyweight wasted little time asserting control, ending the contest in just over two minutes. Known for his speed and flair, Whittaker showcased both as he repeatedly beat Gavazi to the punch.
After establishing his jab and mixing shots upstairs and downstairs, Whittaker dropped the German with a sharp right hand to the head following a crisp combination. Gavazi struggled to handle the pace, and midway through the round he was sent to the canvas again by another heavy right.
Whittaker closed the show moments later, stepping in with a left hand before landing a clean right that prompted the referee’s intervention. Gavazi managed to rise but was clearly unsteady, and a final right hook put him down once more, ending the fight.
The victory improved Whittaker’s record to 10-0-1 with seven knockouts, while Gavazi, who entered with 13 stoppage wins of his own, was unable to withstand the Brit’s speed and precision.
